Newspaper personal ads
What are the advantage of online dating compared to offline ‘newspaper’ personal ads?
Everything. The old-style personal ads are quickly becoming a thing of the past. The interactive personals let you find much better matches in far less time, and you do not have to pay for every word!
What are the advantage of online dating compared to traditional matchmaking services?
Cost is the biggest advantage! Offline matchmaking services can cost hundred or even thousands of dollars, often for a much smaller database, and you are not in complete control of the process.

Cost is the biggest advantage! Offline matchmaking services can cost hundred or even thousands of dollars, often for a much smaller database, and you are not in complete control of the process.
What are you looking for?
Write a list of all the things you are looking for in a man/woman. For example, tall/short, sporty, pretty/handsome, rich, old/young. Now cut the list up. For example, looking for tall, handsome rich guy in his mid 30’s. Ads usually only allow so many words so it is important that you put the most important things that you are looking for in a Woman/Man instead of trivia bits such as, must have blonde hair, blue eyes etc..
Describe yourself in detail.
Write a list that you think best describes you. (Honesty is the best policy.) How old are you? Are you thin, petite, big build? Are you tall/short etc.. Now narrow the list down to a small description of yourself.
Think of what you’d want to know about someone and answer those questions about yourself. People are more likely to respond to your ad if they are attracted by something you’ve told them about you.
Instead of saying you “like music, movies, and restaurants,” offer specific examples. List favorite movies, music or restaurants you like to go to
Make your ad stand out by including a special quote or describing your most intriguing feature or most memorable experiences. If you have a sense of humor, don’t just say so — show it! Have fun with your ad.
Correct Spelling and Grammar are important:
Pay special attention to spelling and grammar. People are more likely to take your ad seriously if you’ve put some thought into it. First, be spontaneous, then read it over. Use proper punctuation and capitalization. ADS WRITTEN IN ALL CAPS LOOK LIKE SHOUTING. ads written in all lowercase with no punctuation even commas are hard for readers to understand don’t you agree.
“These are the don’t of a great ad”
Don’t lie. You are better off telling the truth in your ad. Honesty can prevent disappointment for both you and your potential date. Just remember – you could end up meeting someone who reads your ad, so don’t say you’re 6′1″ if you’re really 5′4″.
Don’t write your life history. Write enough about yourself to catch someone’s attention. Don’t include detailed, personal information.
Never include your name, address, phone number, or other ways that someone can identify you in an ad. If you decide you want to give out personal information in future correspondence, be sure you’re giving it to someone you can trust.
